Installing a browser extension is rarely the slow part. The slow part is knowing what to do once it is installed. Anyone searching for how to install pausepaw has usually reached the store page and stopped at the permission prompt.
Every step of the pausepaw install follows: which button, why that permission is not optional, and the two defaults worth changing before you close the tab. Four steps, about two minutes, and the first pause can fire while you are still reading.
The four steps
- Open the store page and click Add to Chrome. A confirmation dialog appears. It looks stern and amounts to asking whether to continue.
- Grant the permission. The prompt says it can read data on sites you visit. There is no version without that line, because a pause fires the moment the tab opens and the extension has to know which site it is looking at. Nothing you type is read, and a pause does not contact a server.
- Pin the icon. Left alone, the little animal folds into the extensions puzzle piece and you will not find it tomorrow. Skip this and every setting afterwards costs two extra clicks.
- Open the app and write one rule. Name the site you drift to most and leave the pause at thirty seconds.
Two defaults to change first
The pause length, to begin with. Thirty seconds is deliberately cautious. If you move between tabs constantly, sixty is what actually registers. If you mostly look things up, ten is plenty.
Then bind the rule to a window instead of running it all day. A rule that runs from nine to six gets routed around inside a week. It always does.
What each step costs
| Step | What you are looking at | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Add to Chrome | A confirmation dialog | 10 seconds |
| Permission prompt | "Read data on sites you visit" | 5 seconds |
| Pin the icon | The animal sitting in the toolbar | 5 seconds |
| Write the first rule | One site, thirty-second pause | 90 seconds |
FAQ
- Do I need developer mode or an unpacked folder? No. The store listing is the installed version. The unpacked folder is for development and is not the one you want.
- Does it work in Edge or Brave? Yes. Any Chromium browser installs the same build, Firefox has its own version, and there is no Safari build.
- Can I install it on a work machine? Rules run locally in the browser, so nothing leaves the device. Some companies require admin approval for extensions, and your IT team knows better than I do.
- Will it slow the browser down? A pause fires only when a rule matches. Tabs outside your rules are left alone, so nothing extra runs in the background.
That is the whole thing. Write the first rule in the app, try it across one afternoon, and read how PausePaw works if you want to know why an animal carries the countdown. Anything else is answered in more detail on the FAQ page, and the home page is where the rest lives. PausePaw is at pause-paw.shop, and no account is needed to use it.
