PausePaw FAQ:12

People rarely write in with one large problem. They write in with the same six or seven small ones, which is how this pausepaw faq came together: it collects the pausepaw questions we hear most and leaves the rest of the manual alone.
The questions arrive in a rough order, so they are grouped that way here. Before installing, while writing the first rule, during the first pause, and later when somebody asks what happened to their data. Each answer is short on purpose, with a link at the bottom wherever the longer version lives.
Before you install
- Which browsers work today? Chrome, as a Manifest V3 extension. Edge and Firefox are planned rather than shipped, so anything claiming a Firefox build is out of date.
- Do I need an account first? No. Install it, pin the icon, write one rule, and the first pause can fire this afternoon. An account starts to matter when you want those rules to follow you across machines or you want the dashboard numbers.
- What does it actually read? The extension reports aggregated events: domain, duration, timestamp. It never touches page content, what you type, or cookies. Checking which site is open is the one thing it has to do, because a pause fires when the tab opens.
Writing a rule that survives the week
- How many sites belong on the list? Four, not twenty. A long list turns into something you negotiate with every afternoon, and you win that argument every time.
- Can a rule cover a window instead of the whole day? Yes, and it should. A rule running nine to six gets routed around inside a week. Bind it to the block you actually want protected.
- Does it work on a work machine? Nothing leaves the device, though rules sit in one browser profile. Some companies require admin approval to add extensions, which is a question for your IT team rather than for us.
The thirty seconds in the middle
- Can I skip a pause? No. The overlay has no close button and fades only when the countdown ends. That is the part doing the work, so there is no plan to add one.
- How long should it be? Thirty seconds is the default and is right for most people. Sixty if you move between tabs constantly, ten if you mostly open things to look something up.
- Does anything work offline? Rules are kept in a local copy, so enforcement carries on with the network down and reports merge once you are back.
What it costs, and what it knows
- What does free cover? Core enforcement, free forever. Pro and Family add multi-device companion features and family management.
- Where do I see whether it worked? In the dashboard after signing in: today's blocks, total time saved, and your streak. Those counts come from the extension rather than from estimates.
- How do refunds work? Membership runs through PayPal, so subscriptions are managed or cancelled there. Anything disputed can come to us directly.

FAQ
- These answers change, do they not? They do. Anything about browsers, pricing, or accounts gets its current version on the FAQ page, so check there first when a detail here looks stale.
- My question is not on the list. Send it through the contact page with the browser you use and roughly how long a rule had been running. That is enough to reproduce most of them.
- Do the answers differ between free and paid? Not for installing, writing rules, or how a pause behaves. Paid tiers change how many devices follow you and whether family members are involved.
